WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN) was elected Vice-chair of the Congressional Rural Caucus during an organizing meeting of the caucus yesterday.
"As Vice-chair of the Congressional Rural Caucus, I hope to use this position to bring the concerns of rural America to the forefront in this Congress," Peterson said. "The caucus will not only mobilize support for a good farm bill, but we will also highlight specific rural concerns relating to healthcare, housing, education, and other issues that will be addressed during the 104th Congress.
"Rural America's representation in Congress has been diminishing," Peterson said. "There are currently only about 70 Members who represent rural districts, and that's why I believe it is so important to band together and speak with one strong voice.
"I am honored to have been chosen for this post, and I look forward to working with the caucus Members to make sure rural issues are not abandoned by the 104th Congress."
