WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) announced today that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has given Fergus Falls official notice that the city can proceed with the construction of a new veterans home in Fergus Falls.
"Fergus Falls Mayor Kelly Ferber was here in Washington today with several members of the Minnesota VFW when we got this news," Peterson said. "Mayor Ferber and I have been working for many years to get this home in Fergus Falls, and now the real work can begin."
Groundbreaking for the building is scheduled for April 18th at 2:00 p.m., and plans are to get construction under way within 120 days.
"The State Home Construction Grant from the Veterans Affairs Department is for $5.2 million, approximately 65 percent of the total project cost. The State of Minnesota will contribute the remaining 35 percent," Peterson said.
"The 7th District is getting a veterans home, and as a result, additional jobs will be available in the Fergus Falls area," Peterson continued. "Many people from all over the state have worked to see this new veterans home be built in Fergus Falls and they should be commended for their efforts."
