CONGRESSMAN PETERSON RECEIVES DEFICIT HAWK AWARD
FROM THE CONCORD COALITION

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) has been honored by the Concord Coalition as the tenth highest member in the House for his deficit reduction votes in the 104th Congress. Peterson received the Deficit Hawk Award from the Concord Coalition after scoring in the 97th percentile on The Concord Coalition’s 1995 Deficit Reduction Scorecard.

The Concord Coalition is a bipartisan, grassroots organization founded by former Senators Warren Rudman and Paul Tsongas that is dedicated to educating Americans about the dangers of the federal budget deficit. Former Minnesota Congressman Tim Penny is a member of The Concord Coalition’s Board of Directors.

“I am honored to receive this Deficit Hawk award from the Concord Coalition, an organization that has made deficit reduction its top priority,” Peterson said.

“Cutting taxes is popular and protecting some programs from drastic cuts is popular -- but common sense says we can’t reduce the deficit that way,” Peterson continued. “The Blue Dogs are determined to cut the deficit, and we took the right approach with last year’s budget plan. I plan to continue making the tough votes that need to be made in order to reduce the deficit.”
