CONGRESSMAN PETERSON NAMED PROPERTY RIGHTS CHAMPION

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) has been named a “Champion of Private Property Rights” in the 104th Congress for his voting record in defense of property owners.

The League of Private Property Voters (LPPV), in compiling its sixth annual scorecard of Congress, cited Congressman Peterson as one of its top scorers. Peterson scored an 80 out of a possible 100.

“For many years, the federal government just passed regulations without thought to the cost and passed the burden to farmers, small business and taxpayers across the nation,” Peterson said. “I am proud to receive this award and will continue to fight excessive government regulations on private property.”

LPPV’s Congressional Vote Index included issues such as reforming excessive government regulations, establishing cost/benefit analysis for government actions, compensation for property owners when land is taken from them, proper forest management practices, reforming wetlands laws, and other issues impacting property rights.

The League of Private Property Voters is a coalition of over 300 organizations from all 50 states concerned with the federal government’s role in taking private property through excessive regulations.
