CONGRESSMAN PETERSON ANNOUNCES FUNDING
FOR 34TH STREET CORRIDOR PROJECT

WASHINGTON, DC -- After six months of discussions on the Hill with the House leadership and the Senate, Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) has succeeded in getting $1,032,358 in unobligated Minnesota highway project funds for the 34th Street Corridor project in Moorhead.

“The FY1997 Transportation Appropriations conference bill that passed the House today included funding for this project that will not only benefit the Moorhead area, but all of Northwest Minnesota,” Peterson said. “At first, the prospect of getting this money included in the bill seemed bleak, but I am pleased I was able to persuade the conference committee that this project is critical to the future of the Moorhead area and the entire state.

“The 34th Street Corridor project will provide the vital link from the Cities to the expanding commercial corridor,” Peterson said.

The project consists of building an overpass across the Burlington Northern railroad tracks in Moorhead. The crossing would eliminate a projected 650,000 auto/rail conflicts per day.

“Traffic congestion will be reduced because of this project,” Peterson added, “and we anticipate that business and industry activities will also be enhanced.”
