WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today was elected Vice-Chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.
“I have been a member of the Sportsmen’s Caucus for many years, and I appreciate the chance to serve as Vice-Chairman,” Peterson said.
“I worked hard to get the Sportsmen’s Caucus’ support for my amendment to reauthorize the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP),” Peterson continued, “And with the caucus’ support, we got this amendment included in the Farm Bill, which was recently signed by President Clinton.
“Because the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus made CRP a priority during this session, we were able to reauthorize the program through 2002 with a 36.5 million acre cap,” Peterson said. “That’s a great accomplishment, considering that when the Farm Bill debate began, the reauthorization of CRP was not included in the bill.
“I look forward to the new challenges that will come my way as Vice-Chairman for the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.”
The Sportsmen’s Caucus is one of the largest caucuses in Congress, with 204 members in the House and 47 in the Senate . Its mission is to preserve and promote the traditional rights of American citizens to hunt and fish and pursue outdoor activities.
