HOUSE PASSES TRANSPORTATION BILL

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that the House has passed the Building Efficient Surface Transportation and Equity Act of 1998 and related technical corrections which contain over $18 million for 7th District projects.

The following projects are authorized in this legislation:

  • $9,725,000 million for the Sauk Rapids Bridge project. The bridge replacement will be a four-lane design with bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides.
  • $6 million for the City of Moorhead's transportation needs. The funding is to be used to complete the major phases of the 34th Street/ I-94 Interchange and Railroad Relocation Project.
  • $1,125,000 for the University Bridge to 15th Avenue South Project in St. Cloud. The funding is for the right-of-way cost for the project which will include the reconstruction and widening of a 0.9 mile segment of 10th Street South between the west abutment of the University Bridge and 15th Avenue South. The new roadway will be a 4-lane, divided facility.
  • $1,125,000 for the 3rd Street North (CSAH 81) project in the cities of Waite Park and St. Cloud. The funding will be used for the right-of-way cost to accommodate the improvement of 3rd Street North.
  • $150,000 for the City of Crookston's transportation needs. The funding is to be used for a railroad crossing connection between the University of Minnesota campus and Crookston High School.

    "I expect the Senate to pass these bills as well and the President to sign them into law."
