CITY OF EAST GRAND FORKS RECEIVES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION GRANTS

EAST GRAND FORKS, MN – Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that the City of East Grand Forks has been awarded over $2.1 million in Federal grants from the Economic Development Administration (EDA).

One grant is in the amount of $1,249,736, and is for the acquisition and rehabilitation of a building to be used as a multi-use commercial facility.

"This building will provide leasable commercial space in the core of the central business district, behind a proposed 1,400 foot flood wall," Peterson said. "Because of this grant, commercial firms will be able to reopen in the downtown area, and about 100 jobs will be saved."

Another grant is in the amount of $882,000, and will be used to construct an adjustable, storable flood protection wall, an adjoining clay flood protection dike, structures to allow relocation of public utility conduits and other public utility improvements.

"East Grand Forks has done a great job recovering from the Flood of '97," Peterson said. "These funds will keep that effort going."
