WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) announced today that Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman has agreed to his request to visit East Grand Forks, Minnesota on Monday, June 8. The purpose of the visit is to examine the farm crisis in the area and to look for solutions.
"I have been talking to the Secretary on a regular basis about the bleak future farmers in Northwest Minnesota are facing," Peterson said. "Five years of bad weather and disease have left the region on the edge of economic disaster.
"I believe this visit demonstrates the willingness of the Administration to work with farmers, lenders and communities in our region and to help us find solutions to these severe problems," Peterson said. "The Secretary has implemented some positive changes in USDA policy and suggested others. He has also indicated to me he is interested in hearing first-hand from farmers and residents of the 7th District and would like their advice on future actions needed to respond to this continuous problem."
