ST. CLOUD, MN -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) announced today that he will help build a Habitat for Humanity home with a local low-income family in St. Cloud. Peterson is participating in "The Houses that Congress Built," a national public-private effort to build decent, affordable homes for low-income families in every congressional district across the United States during National Homeownership Week (June 6-13, 1998). Peterson will attend the groundbreaking for the home on Tuesday, June 9 at 9:00 a.m. at the building site, 248 22nd Ave. N.
"This is the beginning of a new and unique partnership that will result in a new home for a low-income family in our community," Peterson said. "Everyone in the United States should have a decent home in which to live. With the active support of area civic and business leaders, as well as volunteers, and project supporters like Central Minnesota Builders Association (CMBA) we can make the dream of home ownership a reality for a deserving local family."
The home being built in St. Cloud is for the Jeff Robert and Sandra Mendel Falconer family. Sandra and Jeff have two young children.
CMBA is the building sponsor and will be providing materials, labor and contributions to build the entire home. CMBA will construct the house with the St. Cloud Area Habitat for Humanity and other community volunteers.
"If there are people in other 7th District communities who are interested in finding out more about how to apply for a home or how to start a Habitat affiliate, they can call 1-800-HABITAT."
