CONGRESSMAN PETERSON SECURES FUNDS FOR MOORHEAD TRANSPORTATION PROJECT

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that he has secured $4 million for the City of Moorhead's transportation needs. The funding is to be used to complete the major phases of the 34th Street/ I-94 Interchange and Railroad Relocation Project.

The House Transportation Committee today included specified funding for this project in the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (more commonly known as ISTEA).

"I have been working closely with Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member Oberstar to get additional funding for this project," Peterson said. "Moorhead was originally hoping for just $2 million for the project. With the additional funds, we have insured that Moorhead will be able to complete the major phases of this project.

"This is great news, not only for Moorhead, but for rural Minnesota," Peterson said. "We are no longer being forgotten when it comes to making sure we have the money to improve our district infrastructure."

The 34th Street/ I-94 Interchange and Railroad Relocation Project deals with the area around the interchange which is largely undeveloped at present, but is rapidly undergoing urbanization which could cause major traffic congestion. Local business and industry activities will also highly benefit from this project.
