WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that he has secured $200,000 for the City of Crookston's transportation needs. The funding is to be used for a railroad crossing connection between the University of Minnesota campus and Crookston High School.
The House Transportation Committee today included specified funding for this project in the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (more commonly known as ISTEA).
"I have been working closely with Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member Oberstar to secure the funding for this project," Peterson said. "Without the railway crossing, students from both institutions walk across the railroad tracks unaware of the possible danger of oncoming trains.
"This is great news, not only for Crookston, but for rural Minnesota," Peterson said. "We are no longer being forgotten when it comes to making sure we have the money to improve our district infrastructure."
"I'm pleased I could help Crookston get this Federal funding request included in ISTEA, Peterson concluded. "In the past, I have felt like funding requests from rural Minnesota have not been given the consideration they deserved."
