PETERSON TO PRESENT PURPLE HEART MEDAL
TO FAMILY OF ARVIE VAN MEVEREN
ALEXANDRIA, MN - Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) will present the Purple Heart Medal posthumously to Arvie Van Meveren's family during a ceremony in Alexandria Monday, August 10.
"The Commander of the 9th District, Rolland Porter, wrote to me a few months ago and asked for my help in seeing that Arvie Van Meveren was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he suffered near Kumhwa, Korea on October 19th, 1952," Peterson said. "Van Meveren, a Korean War Veteran, disregarded his own wounds to help with the evacuation of other wounded soldiers and was awarded the Silver Star for his bravery under fire."
Van Meveren died in May of 1997. His wife, Gloria, will
accept the Purple Heart Medal from Congressman Peterson.
The ceremony will be Monday, August 10, at 6:00 p.m. at VFW Post 936
in Alexandria.
