SAUK CENTRE, MN -- Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that the Minnesota Office of Drug Policy and Violence Prevention has been awarded a $213,608 Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) grant to be used at the Sauk Centre Juvenile Correctional Facility. The grant is from the U.S. Department of Justice.
"These funds will be used by the Sauk Centre Juvenile Correctional Facility to support a substance abuse treatment program for young men with histories of chemical abuse," Peterson said. "Juveniles who have failed previous treatment, and those with serious criminal histories will also be involved in the program."
The six-month residential program will include treatment and a comprehensive educational program, and will serve 24 young men, who will be separated from the general population. Individualized treatment plans will be developed for each participant, including an aftercare plan as a condition of parole.
"We must break the vicious cycle of drug use and crime among offenders," Peterson said. "and programs like this are being developed and implemented across the country with these grant funds from the Justice Department in an effort to do so."
This program at the Sauk Centre Juvenile Correctional Facility is expected to be active by November 1997.
