SACRED HEART SCHOOL TO RECEIVE ADDITIONAL FEMA FUNDING

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released almost $2.3 million in additional funding to replace Sacred Heart School in East Grand Forks.

"This is great news for the entire community," Peterson said. "The Flood of '97 left the school in such bad shape that the only thing that could be done was rebuild it."

FEMA has already obligated $10.3 million toward the estimated cost of engineering and design services and construction to replace the original school. These funds that are being released today represent the bid-cost for completion of the school.

"It is such a good feeling to hear that the school is near its completion," Peterson said. "I'm sure these pre-school through 12th grade students are looking forward to the day when they can return to class in a 'real' school."

FEMA is paying 90 percent of the cost of the new school through its Public Assistance Program and Sacred Heart Schools is paying the 10 percent non-federal share.
