FEMA AWARDS $1.8 MILLION TO BRIDGES MEDICAL SERVICES IN ADA

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-Detroit Lakes) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency today announced $1.8 million in additional federal disaster assistance to continue construction of Bridges Medical Services facility in Ada, Minn.

“The rebuilding of Bridges Medical Center has been critical to the community of Ada,” Peterson said. “These funds will go a long way toward keeping their services and their employees in the Ada area.”

The former medical facility was destroyed during the floods of 1997. The new building is located on the outskirts of Ada, outside of the 500-year floodplain. The building site was elevated to assure against future flooding. In the past, FEMA has obligated more than $13 million  to restore the facility.

Bridges Medical Services facility Administrator Kyle Rasmussen said “We are pleased to have this funding in place so we can complete the project. FEMA and Congressman Peterson have been extremely helpful throughout the entire rebuilding process.”

The funding will be used to continue construction of Bridges’ three interconnected buildings, including a 14-bed hospital, 49-bed nursing home and 15-room examining room clinic. Under FEMA’s Public Assistance program, the funds will pay 90 percent of the replacement costs with the remaining ten percent paid by the State of Minnesota.
