 SPORTSMEN’S CAUCUS PURSUES FULL
FUNDING FOR CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

Members Appeal to Leadership for Support

(Washington D.C.) – The Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus today called on the House Leadership to support full funding for federal conservation programs.

The bipartisan letter, sponsored by Caucus Chairmen Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Collin Peterson (D-MN), and Caucus Vice-Chairmen Chip Pickering (R-MS) and Mike Thompson (D-CA), specifically supports the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP), the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP), the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA), and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

Congressman Peterson, co-chairman of the Sportsmen’s Caucus, joined 57 of his colleagues as a co-signer of the letter and expressed his strong support for the effort.

“The success of these conservation programs has been proven time and again,” said Mr. Peterson.  “Conservation benefits everyone, sportsmen and women, farmers, outdoor enthusiasts, and most importantly, the wildlife who desperately need these new critical habitats.  It is time these programs are fully funded.”

The conservation programs allow cooperative efforts between agencies and private landowners to protect and restore wildlife habitat while maintaining productive use of agricultural land.  Hunters, anglers, environmentalists, conservationists, and farmers throughout the country support these programs.
