DAIRY MARKET LOSS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PAYMENTS TO BEGIN
WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) today announced that $200 million in disaster payments will be sent to dairy farmers who have been hit by record low milk prices and who qualified for the Market Loss Assistance Program. Payments are expected to begin next week.
I am pleased to see this disaster program move through the bureaucratic process so quickly, Peterson said. With milk prices being so low these past few months, these payments will hopefully make a difference to our dairy farmers.
Sign-up for the program ran from April 12 to May 21, 1999. Payments are limited to the first 26,000 hundredweight of production in the selected year.
