PETERSON ANNOUNCES USDA DISASTER DESIGNATION FOR NINE NW MINNESOTA COUNTIES
WASHINGTON, DC After asking USDA Secretary Dan Glickman to move quickly on a request to declare a disaster in Northwest Minnesota, Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) Thursday announced that USDA has approved the request.
I spoke with Secretary Glickman at an agriculture committee hearing yesterday and asked about the progress of this request, Peterson said. I was very pleased to see the designation come through today.
Beltrami, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau Counties have been designated primary natural disaster areas. Farmers in the following contiguous counties are also eligible for assistance: Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Mahnomen, Norman and St. Louis.
Family farmers in the designated counties are eligible to be considered for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency. Local FSA offices will take loan applications.
