(WASHINGTON, DC) - U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson announced that First Care Medical Services in Fosston has been awarded a USDA Rural Development Loan for $2.4 million as part of the Community Facility Direct Loan program. The Rural Development funds will be used to renovate and construct an addition to the hospital.

“With the news of the hospital expansion and the jobs saved at the vegetable plant, Fosston is on the road to better economic times,” Peterson said. “I’m looking forward to the community’s continued growth.”

First Care Medical Services CEO Pat Wangler indicated that the hospital was in great need for more room as a result of changes in patient care and the rise of outpatient services. The expansion will include new space for outpatient care, rehabilitation, therapy, cardiac wellness, and other services. “A growth of services is expected,” Wangler said.

Construction on the expansion is expected to begin in May of 2003.
