Peterson: "Those affected by floods need to contact SBA"

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Homeowners, business owners, renters and landlords in flood-affected communities who are seeking assistance should immediately make application with the SBA even if they are waiting for grant money, according to Congressman Collin Peterson (D-Minn).

“Don’t wait for Community Development Block Grant money to come to you,” Peterson said. “Make application to the SBA before their deadline, before the option is no longer available.”

The deadline for SBA application is August 13. Peterson stressed that you are under no obligation to accept the loan, and you can take 60 days to decide. “By contacting the SBA now, and going through their process, you will have a back-up plan in case the grant money does not come through, or in case it is not enough to cover your losses,” Peterson said.

“If nothing else, I strongly encourage flood victims to speak with an SBA loan officer to find out more about the disaster loan program,” Peterson said.

Contact the SBA at 800-359-2227.
