Ada Awarded FEMA Grant for Storm Sewers

(WASHINGTON, DC) - U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson (D-7th Dist.) announced that the City of Ada has been awarded $314,325 in Hazard Mitigation Grant funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for storm water drainage improvements.

“Every time it rains I worry about potential flooding in Ada and many other parts of my district. I am proud that we have been able to help alleviate potential flood damages,” Peterson said. “We have worked hard with Sen. Dayton, State Sen. Rod Skoe, and State Rep. Kent Eken to secure funding to prevent further disasters in this region and I’m glad we’re going to get this project done.”

The grant will be used to fund the installation of storm sewers with backflow prevention devices and erosion control at seven different areas within the city. The project will provide protection against backup into the existing storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems during flood conditions and heavy rainfall events.

Ada will provide $104, 775 in matching funds for this mitigation project. These improvements will eliminate or significantly reduce future flood damages of homes, businesses and roadways that have been repetitively flooded over the years.

“These kinds of projects are the cornerstone of disaster prevention efforts and illustrate the importance of local, state and federal government working together for the benefit of citizens,” said Edward G. Buikema, FEMA Regional Director.
