Peterson’s flood control project requests clear hurdle

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson said today that his flood control project requests for Roseau, Ada, Borup, Granite Falls, Crookston, Marsh Creek, and the Upper Mississippi Navigation Study have passed the House Transportation Committee.

“We don’t always get what we ask for, so I’m pleased that all these requests were authorized by the Transportation Committee,” Peterson said. “This is great news for all these communities and areas that are working so diligently in their efforts to prevent future flood disasters.”

The requests were included in the Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA) of 2003. In June, Peterson sent a letter to Transportation Subcommittee Chairman John Duncan, asking that these projects be included in the bill. These projects are, or are related to, Army Corps of Engineers flood control plans.

WRDA will now have to pass the full House and Senate. “My hope is that these requests will all be part of the final package,” Peterson said.

The WRDA bill authorizes funding for the Roseau River flood damage project, for flood control projects in Crookston and Granite Falls, for Marsh Creek's Site Six water retention program, and for Ada's and Borup's feasibility studies.
