Peterson appointed ranking member of agriculture subcommittee
(WASHINGTON, DC) – In a recent press conference, Congressman Collin C. Peterson (DFL-7th District) was appointed as ranking member of the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management subcommittee by colleagues on the House Agriculture Committee.
The subcommittee has jurisdiction over programs and markets that relate to soybeans, wheat, dry beans, feed grains, oilseeds and other commodities, as well as crop insurance and the Commodity Credit Corporation.
“Crop insurance reform will be my priority in this subcommittee,” Peterson said. “If we can fix the existing problems within the crop insurance system, we won’t have to deal with the challenges of disaster assistance like we’ve had in past years.”
Peterson also was appointed to serve on the Conservation Subcommittee, which deals with soil, water, resource conservation and rural development, among other issues, and he was appointed to the Livestock and Horticulture subcommittee.
Peterson, who is the second-most senior member on the full Agriculture Committee, says he will continue to work on a smooth implementation of the 2002 Farm Bill.
