Peterson Secures $3.2 Million for Highway 23

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congressman Collin Peterson announced that the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU) bill that includes $3.288 million for the Highway 23 expansion project between Highway 19 and County Road 33.

“Last year, I took this project to House Transportation Committee Chairman Don Young (AK) and Ranking Member Jim Oberstar (MN-8) and convinced them of its importance,” Peterson said. “Because many of our federal transportation dollars are allocated by Minnesota’s State Department of Transportation the money doesn’t always get out to rural areas like it should. By convincing Chairman Young and Congressman Oberstar to set aside funds for this project I made sure the federal money would go directly to the Highway 23 project without getting sidetracked in St. Paul.”

A joint transportation planning study recommended this improvement as one of the highest priorities for the Marshall area. The project includes expanding the four-lane section of roadway from Highway 19 through the County Road 33 intersection. In addition, a truck acceleration lane will be added. The project is the only expansion related project in the Southwest portion of the state and comes at a time when expansion of the local economic centers and schools is expected to continue.
