(Washington, DC) - Congressman Collin Peterson (D-Minn) announced that the Milan Fire Department has been awarded a vehicle acquisition grant for $153,120 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
“These grants are always good news for smaller fire departments that are in need of a new vehicle,” Peterson said. “The fire department and their volunteers who protect the Milan area important to the public safety of the residents.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support local firefighters and the services they deliver. For the 2005 program, Congress appropriated $650 million in direct assistance to firefighters to improve their effectiveness and to establish or expand fire prevention programs throughout the United States.
Applicants have to demonstrate financial need and articulate the benefits to be derived from the grant funds in their applications.
