(WASHINGTON, DC) - U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson (D-7th Dist.) announced that the Red Lake Band of Chippewa has been awarded $1.3 million through the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Tribal Resources Grant Program.
“This funding will help Red Lake tribal officers get the equipment they need to do their jobs,” Peterson said. “Even though it’s been coming slowly, we’re still working hard to try to get more federal money to Red Lake to meet their needs.”
The TRGP is designed to enhance law enforcement infrastructures and community policing practices in Native American communities, and funds such items as salaries and benefits for new community policing officers, basic equipment, crime fighting technology systems, and training.
Red Lake Tribal Secretary Judy Roy says that they expect the grant will be used to better equip their tribal officers.
