Internships with Congressman Collin C. Peterson

Internships in Congressman Peterson’s office provide a unique and rewarding opportunity that will serve as an introduction to Congress and the larger legislative process. As an intern, you will experience first-hand the complexities of policy initiatives and develop a keen awareness of the multifaceted nature of specific issue areas. This internship will enable you to witness our great democracy in action and, ideally, inspire you to continue toward public service in the future.

Internships Information:

Interns in Congressman Peterson’s office will have the opportunity to build a functional knowledge of the U.S. government, especially the inner workings of the U.S. Congress. Interns assist with administrative duties for the 7th District of Minnesota, such as leading tours of the U.S. Capitol, facilitating flag requests, and serving as the first point of contact for constituents who call our office. Interns will also have the chance to help with the legislative workings of the office, conducting research, and attending Congressional briefings.

How to Apply:

Ideal candidates are highly motivated current college students or recent graduates wishing to gain Capitol Hill experience for internships in the Washington, D.C. office. Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills, professional maturity, attention to detail, and willingness to work on a variety of tasks. Minnesota ties are a must. This is a paid position.

Internship placements are provided for the following sessions:

  • Fall – September through December (deadline: July 1)
  •  Spring – January through May (deadline: November 27)
  •  Summer – June through August (deadline March 1)
